WASHINGTON – Sen. Carl Levin, D-Mich., chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, issued the following statement today on the use of private security contractors in Afghanistan.

Now that the primary is over, we will be holding our 9th Congressional District Democratic Party convention this Saturday, August 14! Registration begins at 9:00 am, and the convention will occur from 10:00 am until noon.
Peters for Congress field organizers will be present to lead groups of volunteers into Oakland County communities to go door-to-door for Congressman Gary Peters when the convention concludes. I encourage you to spend a couple of hours volunteering in support of our Congressman!

What an exciting primary election night. We had two great candidates running for the Democratic nomination for governor in House Speaker Andy Dillon and Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero. Both ran great campaigns and both should be proud.
Congratulations to Virg Bernero on his victory. It's time for us now to all rally behind him and win this November.

At first we worried that my opponent would be so out of touch with Oakland County he’d want to take us back to the same failed policies that caused the economic meltdown—but it is far worse than that.

I was delighted to cast my vote this afternoon in favor of the confirmation of Elena Kagan to the United States Supreme Court.
At a time when the discussion of our legal system is so often dominated by ideological labels, Elena Kagan will bring years of practical, pragmatic experience to our highest court. She is extraordinarily well qualified and will bring a valuable new perspective to the court.

WASHINGTON — U.S. Sens. Debbie Stabenow and Carl Levin, both D-Mich., announced today the inclusion of $400,000 for Michigan in the Financial Services and General Government appropriations bill passed by the Senate Appropriations Committee yesterday. The bill also includes language sought by Levin that maintains a prohibition against government contracts with inverted corporations, which hide their assets and income offshore to avoid paying taxes.
