Extend the Payroll Tax Cut for Workers
With time running out, Rep. Levin and other Democrats in Congress are working to extend and expand the payroll tax cut for another year. The payroll tax cut went into effect a year ago and has provided $110 billion of tax relief to 159 million American workers. President Obama has called on Congress to extend the payroll tax holiday for another year and also to increase the size of the tax cut.

I would also like to answer some of the commonly asked questions about the final budget “deal” and offer my thoughts on the question I hear nearly every day: What happens now?

Governor's Budget Hurts Schools, Cities, and the Most Vulnerable
By State Representative Ellen Cogen Lipton
Tuesday, February 22, 2011
Last week, Gov. Rick Snyder met with both chambers of the Michigan Legislature to announce massive cuts to our cities, schools and our most vulnerable citizens. I am against this budget proposal — which would give more than $1 billion in tax credits to the business community while unfairly cutting benefits to our seniors — because it unfairly imposes the burden on those that need our help the most: children, seniors and the working poor.
