9th District Dems Convention - Saturday, Aug 14

By Tim Greimel, Chair, 9th District Democratic Party
Monday, August 9, 2010

Now that the primary is over, we will be holding our 9th Congressional District Democratic Party convention this Saturday, August 14! Registration begins at 9:00 am, and the convention will occur from 10:00 am until noon.

Peters for Congress field organizers will be present to lead groups of volunteers into Oakland County communities to go door-to-door for Congressman Gary Peters when the convention concludes. I encourage you to spend a couple of hours volunteering in support of our Congressman!

This convention is very important as we head into the final months of a hotly contested general election. Congressman Peters’ opponent is an extreme right-wing ideologue who has stated that he doubts President Obama was born in the United States and who recently hosted the infamous anti-woman campaigner Phyllis Schlafly at one of his fundraisers.

Elected precinct delegates and 2010 Democratic candidate nominees are automatically allowed to vote at this Saturday’s convention, and I will entertain a motion to allow all Michigan Democratic Party members who live in the 9th District to vote too.

The agenda for the convention is:

  1. Welcome – Tim Greimel, Chair
  2. Speaker – Congressman Gary Peters
  3. Recognition of Elected Officials
  4. Election of Representatives to State Credentials Committee –
    (a) Two Representatives (1 woman and 1 man)
    (b) Two Alternates (1 woman and 1 man)
(Those elected must be available to attend the Michigan Democratic Party convention on August 28-29, 2010 in Detroit, in the unlikely event that the MDP Chair chooses to convene the Credentials Committee.)
  5. Platform Committee –
    (a) Two Representatives (1 woman and 1 man)
    (b) Two Alternates (1 woman and 1 man)
(Those elected must be available to attend two state Platform Committee meetings in Lansing at 7:00 pm on August 24 and 25.)
  6. Rules Committee –
    (a) Two Representatives (1 woman and 1 man)
    (b) Two Alternates (1 woman and 1 man)
(Those elected must be available to attend a state Rules Committee meeting in Lansing at 7:00 pm on August 26.)
  7. Voting on any Resolutions to Recommend to the State Platform Committee
  8. Closing Remarks – Tim Greimel, Chair

I look forward to seeing you at this Saturday’s convention!

Sincerely,

Tim Greimel, Chair
