Health Care Reform Rally - Nov 7, 10am

Employed, covered now, but afraid it could change tomorrow? Paying too much, deductables increasing, coverage shrinking? Are you unemployed, underinsured, and out of options? Feel like your voice has been drowned out by right wing agitators and media?

Stand up for health care reform! Saturday, November 7th at the corners of Woodward Ave. and 11 Mile Road.

Show up in force. Demand what is right.

This is your opportunity: the opportunity of a lifetime to help close the deal on U.S. Health-care reform legislation right here in S.E. Michigan at the recently named National Scenic Byway and all American road Woodward Ave.

Washington has indicated in advance that Congress plans to vote on Health-care reform legislation the evening after our event. It is essential that we do everything in our power to show up in force so that we do not miss any opportunity to capitalize on a large and diverse crowd--a large and diverse crowd will reinforce our resolve and amplify our voice in Washington D.C. for the Congressional vote on Saturday.

Check-in at St. John's Episcopal Church, 26998 Woodward Ave., Royal Oak, MI 48067. Demonstrate anytime between 10:00am and 1:30pm, with a Rally starting at 1:30pm at St. John's.

Key facts include:

  • 44,000 people die every year who cannot afford health insurance and are not covered
  • People are sick and dying, but lobbyists are spending $1.5 million a day to stop reform
  • 14,000 people a day lose health insurance, but insurance company profits soar
  • The system will be broke by 2020, but drug companies charge more every year
  • This is wrong! No one should profit from another's misfortune
  • Fight the power of organized money with the power of organized people

Your own signs, banners, and costumes welcome; some will also be available on-site.

Key messages include:

  • Health care is a moral issue
  • It's wrong to profit from the sick and dying
  • It's wrong to shut out someone who needs help
  • Health care is a civil right
  • Regulate greedy drug and insurance companies

We will line both sides of Woodward between 11 Mile Road and Catalpa. We will distribute flyers urging calls and emails to Senators and Congressional reps. We will patronize Woodward Avenue businesses and make some friends.
