You are hereOutrageous

Equal pay for equal work – pretty straight forward.

You put in a good day of work and you should earn the same amount as anyone else - no matter your sex.

Unfortunately this is not the case!

Women are currently paid 77 cents for every dollar that men are paid. In Michigan the disparity is even higher. Michigan women earn only 72 cents for each dollar men earn.

For a women doing the exact same job as a man this year, she would need to work an extra 4 months to earn the same amount.

This is outrageous!

It is unbelievable to me that anyone in Congress would think that our country's daughters, sisters and mothers should be paid any less than a man simply because we are women.

Yet the Paycheck Fairness Act, which would help targets of wage discrimination fight back, has yet to be passed.

Today is Pay Equity Day and another day that reminds me why it is so critical that Gary is in Congress fighting to ensure that when our daughters enter the workplace they will not be faced with this inequality.

Every day Gary goes to work fighting for our daughters and for all Michigan workers – whether they are men or women. He proudly supported the first bill President Obama signed into law, the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Act. This law is helping increase equality in the workplace and he is a cosponsor of the Paycheck Fairness Act.

All workers deserve the right to be paid equally. I am proud of Gary for fighting every day to make this a reality.

I hope you will stand with me as we work to keep Gary in Congress fighting for all of us.
