A promise worth keeping: fighting foreclosures

I wanted to give you a quick update on some of the exciting things happening in the Treasurer’s Office.

I have been in the news recently promoting the Oakland County Foreclosure Prevention Initiative, a collaboration between the Treasurer’s Office, the United Way, and Lighthouse of Oakland County, in partnership with Wayne County and other public and non-profit organizations.

Our website will connect you with a housing counselor who will contact your lender and develop an action plan for fighting your foreclosure, free of charge!

Log onto fightmortgageforeclosure.com/oakland, call 211, or you can also contact my office toll free at 888-350-0900. The Oakland County Foreclosure Prevention Initiative will now lead the fight against foreclosure.

This article and video was in the Oakland Press today about the program. Click on this link to see the video and article on this subject on the Oakland Press website.

Following through on my promise to use the Treasurer’s Office as a platform to promote financial literacy, I would like to announce the first annual “Treasurer Meisner Financial Literacy Multimedia Arts Contest” for Oakland County middle and high school students. Winners earn college scholarship money and the opportunity to have their work displayed in the County Treasurer Offices.

Participating students are being provided with real “benchmarks” from Michigan’s curriculum in the financial literacy area. My hope is that students can use their favorite art form to think in new ways about money and finances, and that we can increase awareness of this critical area.

Keep in touch!

Your friend,
Andy
